We have introduced this low step thru model to our range, for those of you who may require an electric bike for those leisurely weekend rides, and do not wish to spend the amount required to purchase a Dahon 36v conversion. We have made some changes to the standard specification of this bike, in order to bring it up to a level that we consider in keeping with the level that our customers expect from us, as a specialist folding bike shop.

We have improved the gearing ratios by fitting a 44T aluminium Stronglight chainset, and compensating by fitting a Mega range rear freewheel to still retain the low gear. Also replaced is the rear gear mech. with an upgraded Shimano Acera which improves the gear shifting. A tyre upgrade to the Schwalbe Big Apple’s with Kevlar to improve puncture resistance and allow higher pressures, to decrease rolling resistance.

Thanks to the EBC (Electronic battery Controller) this bike is capable of large distances with the power on a moderate setting. Levels of required assistance can easily be selected from the controller, situated conveniently on the handlebars. The bike represents excellent value for money for the leisure cyclist who needs a bit of help, as rider comfort is perhaps the leading virtue of this bike. It comes with a big wide saddle and suspension seatpost, though the bike pictured here has a 400mm micro adjust seatpost for the rider who is a little too tall for the original fitment and is available as an alternative. The handlebar to saddle distance is also quite short, this gives an upright riding position that is often desirable for the leisure market, even with the handlebars at their lowest position.

All Folding Bikes are thoroughly prepared and checked in the workshop in order to validate the warranties, this involves a thorough setup and adjustment of spokes, bearings, brakes, gears (stops and cable adjustment). The chainset and crank, handlebars and all nuts and bolts are checked for tightness and the pedals fitted. Finally the tyre pressures are set and the folding joints and all quick releases are lubricated and adjusted. After a brief test ride (mainly indoor) they are then carefully packed back into the original boxes using appropriate packaging, this means that the bikes when received and unfolded are ‘ready to ride’ . All 26” wheel Dahon bikes arrive in the UK in boxes with the frame unfolded but the bike partially dismantled. We have taken the decision that in order to properly achieve our highest aim and that of the responsible manufacturers with whom we liase, that we therefore, properly prepare then fold the completed bike with only the handlebar removed, it is therefore necessary for us to repackage the bike accordingly on account of it’s larger size when assembled.
